Equis is a set of organizations (including Equis Research, Equis Institute, and EquisLabs) working to create a better understanding of Latinos, innovate new approaches to reach and engage them, and invest in the leadership and infrastructure for long-term change and increased engagement.

Equis is hiring a Managing Director, a strong and experienced manager, to lead its teams to their best performance, ensure strategic implementation and oversee its core administrative functions - finance, operations, fundraising, communications, and human resources. This role reports to the President, and this leader will be key to translating strategy into seamless, values-driven operations that support organizational growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating and aligning organizational policies and processes
  • Overseeing finance to ensure systems meet evolving needs
  • Supervising fundraising and communications teams to ensure cross-functional alignment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy Execution and Leadership

  • Leads with impeccable management strokes that yield the fullest potential of their entire team, provides professionally development-minded direction and support to achieve their goals, and keeps all team members equally accountable, synced, and productive.
  • Serve as a decision maker on strategic and personnel-related matters, leveraging recommendations and in collaboration with the Senior and Executive Leadership Teams.
  • Build a sustainable and scalable strategic planning process that is measurable, achievable, and adaptable to meet the various external and internal needs of Equis and the community it serves.
  • Serve as the organization’s pilot to ensure all of Equis’ projects align with the organization’s mission, priorities, vision and is being delivered to meet those priorities while maintaining compliant and fiscal soundness.

Team Culture

  • Act as a cultural ambassador and change expert in creating a One Equis, committed to advancing Equis' desired culture, fostering a workplace that aligns with Equis’ values by promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values accountability, curiosity, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain continuous communication between and with the President, ELT, SLT, Union representatives, and the staff-at-large to ensure alignment with goals and mission.
  • Make certain that all Equis operational policies and procedures and programmatic goals mirror its desired One Equis culture via guidance, direction, and generative feedback loops established throughout and at various levels of the organization.

Operational Oversight

  • Directly manage and oversee the Mission Control Departments - Operations, HR, Finance, Fundraising, and Communications - of Equis to promote teamwork and harmony across all departments to provide excellent operational support to the various programmatic arms of Equis.
  • Continuously monitor the organization’s needs, measure the efficacy of the operational departments via their capacity, systems, and processes, and promote continuous improvement and development across all Mission Control departments.
  • Foster strong financial and compliance oversight and coordination between the finance and fundraising departments, ensuring transparent and mutual accountability is maintained by both departments ultimately ensuring Equis is accurately tracking its financial goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 10 years in non-profits, campaigns, or similar organizations; at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Familiarity around non-profit accounting (including 501c3 and 501c4 compliance) in civic engagement or advocacy spaces
  • Proven track record in change management and building high-performing, mission-aligned teams
  • Experience in strategic planning and managing complex, evolving projects
  • Deep understanding of the Latino cultural and political landscape
  • Strong alignment with Equis’ mission and is keenly aware of how Equis fits into the broader news and political context
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and effective across diverse internal and external teams
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and ability to thrive under pressure
  • Self-driven, resilient, and innovative in problem-solving

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The ability to communicate with colleagues, partners, and clients via phone, video call, and email.
  • This position requires the ability to travel which may encompass all or part of the work day. Travel may involve transportation via airplane, car travel, or trains and for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Equis is a national remote office environment with team members located across all continental U.S. time zones. Candidates should be prepared to either work from home or a location of their choosing that is located within the continental United States.

This position requires the ability to work core hours Monday through Friday in your local time. This position will require occasional nights and weekend work and some in-person attendance for all-staff or department level events which require overnight travel. Additional travel may be required for this position.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a fully remote in the continental USA only, full-time position, EXEMPT with occasional domestic travel and a competitive annual salary range of $200,000 - $225,000. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of what Equis may pay for this position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as budget availability and commensurate with the selected candidates’ experience.
