Position Summary

Equis is seeking a Data Analyst to support research projects that aim to deepen our understanding of how to engage Latinos in the political process. The Data Analyst, reporting to the Political Lab Manager, will lead the analysis of projects using tools such as R or Python, contribute to the development of our code library, and assist with data collection and other analysis tasks as needed. Within the broader Research and Data Department, the Data Analysis team supports the design, analysis, and interpretation of research projects including polling, message testing, and field experiments. At Equis, our top priority is the wellbeing and power of the Latino community; our research aims to deepen our understanding of how to reach and engage Latinos in the political process. The ideal candidate for this position would be invested in the same desired outcomes and impact for our research.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently explore data for insights about Latino communities, including survey and voter file data
  • Transform data into findings through analysis and visualization using R, Python, and/or SQL
  • Communicate data-driven stories to internal and external audiences through memos and presentations
  • Contribute to the ideation / design / drafting of research projects
  • Collaborate on survey data collection, including sampling, weighting, and data processing
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of Equis’ analysis codebase and internal documentation
  • Use version control (i.e. Git) and project management tools to manage tasks
  • Work on multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
  • Jump in where needed, from briefings to data clean-up, as part of a highly collaborative team
  • Participate in team meetings and retreats

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience using R or Python for analysis (i.e., data wrangling, linear models, visualizations)
  • Understanding of statistics and methods of social research and causal inference
  • Familiarity with census data, polling data, precinct election results, or voter files
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Commitment to the core Equis goal of enhancing the well-being and power of the Latino community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL (i.e., aggregating columns, joining tables)
  • Experience using version control (i.e. Git) and project management (e.g., Asana, Monday.com) tools
  • Experience with one of the following: spatial analysis, natural language processing, machine learning

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The ability to communicate with colleagues, partners, and clients via phone, video call, and email.

Work Environment

Equis is a national remote office environment with team members located across all continental U.S. time zones. Candidates should be prepared to either work from home or a location of their choosing that is located within the continental United States.

This position requires the ability to work core hours Monday through Friday in your local time. This position will require occasional nights and weekend work and some in-person attendance for all-staff or department level events, approximately 2 per year, which require overnight travel.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a fully remote (USA only), full-time position, exempt and a competitive, starting salary range of $65,000-$85,000/year. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of what Equis may pay for this position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as budget availability and commensurate with the selected candidates’ experience.
